(NRSC News) – After John Fetterman “won” the Senate race in Pennsylvania in November, everyone knew it was only a matter of time before he was going to experience medical issues. Everyone it seems except those who actually voted for Fetterman, that is.
Sure enough, Fetterman didn’t even make it two months after being sworn in before landing in the hospital. Not once, twice, and he remains there today.
Fetterman is supposed to be serving the people of Pennsylvania and as unfortunate as his medical and mental health issues are, he needs to be accountable.
The Republican Party of Washington County, Pennsylvania, is calling on Fetterman to appear on camera to “show us he is alive and well” or step down.
Washington County is in southwest Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh and was won by Dr. Mehmet Oz by more than 13 points in the November midterm election. Fetterman ended up winning the state, somehow, by 5 points.
“Because of the now confirmed lies that were told during the 2022 general election regarding the health of Senator John Fetterman, as well as the threats made against a journalist who interviewed him, the Washington County Republican Party refuses to take assurances from the Office of the Senator or Democrat operatives that Fetterman is able to carry out his duties as Senator,” party chairman Sean Logue wrote on Facebook.
“As such, we call upon Senator Fetterman to appear on camera to show us he is alive and well, and if he is unable to do so, we call upon our elected Representatives in Washington, Senator Casey and Congressman Reschenthaler, to intervene immediately.
“Ultimately, if Fetterman is unable or unwilling to carry out his duties as a United States Senator, then we ask for his resignation and call for a special election to be held this year; no more lies or games,” he concluded.
As of Monday, Fetterman is still at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, according to his office.
Fetterman’s health issues began back in May when he suffered a stroke. Despite many urging him to walk away from the Senate race, he stayed in and kept out of the public’s view until he could no longer do so. When he did show up for the world to see, it wasn’t pretty or reassuring.
He was suffering from some pretty serious issues due to the stroke and required a closed caption system in order to be able to understand what people were saying to him. On top of that, he was having serious issues communicating. It was hard to watch and very evident things were not well and that he was not fit for the office of US Senator.
Nonetheless, his doctor, a donor to the Democratic Party, insisted he was up to the task. He stayed in the race and shockingly won.
CBS reported that on Feb. 16, Fetterman was evaluated by Dr. Brian Monahan, the attending physician of Congress, and checked himself in for symptoms of clinical depression.
Fetterman has suffered from depression “off and on” throughout his life, as per Adam Jentleson, the senator’s chief of staff, noting it had become more frequent.
“We don’t have a lot to update folks with since there’s no real news to report except that John is doing well, working with the wonderful doctors, and remains on a path to recovery,” Joe Calvello, a representative of Fetterman’s office, said in a statement.
“He is visiting with staff and family daily, and his staff are keeping him updated on Senate business and news,” he stated. “We understand the intense interest in John’s status and especially appreciate the flood of well-wishes.”
“However, as we have said this will be a weeks-long process and while we will be sure to keep folks updated as it progresses, this is all there is to give by way of an update,” he remarked.
Calvello added the office was continuing to work as usual.
“Our team is moving full speed ahead and working tirelessly for the people of Pennsylvania,” Calvello commented. “Just last week we opened a new office in Erie and will be opening several more offices in the coming weeks.”
Not only is Fetterman already in the hospital but he also will be taking medication regularly for his mental health. NBC quoted what it called a “close senior aide” as saying that Fetterman is facing a lengthy hospital stay while doctors find the correct dosage for the medicine Fetterman will be taking.
The aide also noted that Fetterman has been struggling with the changes that have taken place in his life and questioning his self-worth.
Is this really a man fit to serve as a US Senator for the 5th most populous US state? He didn’t seem fit for the job last year before the midterm elections and things have only gotten worse. It’s time for something to be done.
Whether or not Fetterman legitimately won the November election is irrelevant at this point. He’s clearly not fit to serve.
